Fund development company to focus on senior living communities

Kansas City, Mo. (10.9.09)– The economic downturn has affected every facet of business in the United States, including the nonprofit sector of the senior living industry. 3B Fund Development Group (3B) has been formed in response to a crucial need in this industry to gather and grow substantial funds internally to finance retirement communities’ key needs– including new construction projects, major repairs or other specific needs– which at one time had been financed by outside means.

3B is a strategic partnership between Jean Bacon, former CEO of Bishop Spencer Place, a senior living community in Kansas City, Mo.; Sharon Brooks, CEO of SB&A Integrated Marketing (SB&A) in Richmond, Va. and Jeffrey Byrne, president and CEO of Jeffrey Byrne & Associates (JB&A) in Kansas City, Mo. 3B’s leadership has extensive experience in all facets of fund development for senior living, including structuring and managing development efforts, integrating efforts into organizational structure, and developing messaging and materials to ensure the success of fundraising efforts.

Jean Bacon has more than 35 years of management expertise in senior living services, having dedicated more than 20 years to planning, developing and managing Bishop Spencer Place. Sharon Brooks, CEO of SB&A, has 30 years of experience effectively marketing to seniors and their families, including the development of materials for several capital campaigns. As president and CEO of JB&A, Jeffrey Byrne has spent more than 21 years successfully providing client-focused fundraising, financial development, and capital campaign planning and management.

“The past 18 months have pointed out a tremendous need for fundraising programs among mid-sized, single-site Continuing Care Retirement Communities,” says Sharon Brooks. “It is more crucial now than ever before for these organizations to have a program in place that supports residents who have been negatively impacted by the economic downturn to ensure their care is sustained through their lifetimes; that provides equity for expansions or special projects to stay on track for future planning needs, and that shows a community’s financial stability by having strong cash reserves on hand. 3B has been created to make sure these communities continue to thrive.”

3B will assist clients with capital campaigns, planned giving and bequests, endowments, targeted fundraising, annual funds and other options. Its overall goal is to assist communities with successful fundraising at a time when the national economy mandates these successes.
